3D Fabricated Letters FAQs

What is the difference between halo-lit and frontlit letters?+

Halo-lit (reverse-lit) letters have a solid face and project light backwards onto the wall, creating a glowing outline. Frontlit letters have an illuminated face that lights up directly. Halo-lit suits a subtle, premium look; frontlit maximises visibility and brightness.

What materials are fabricated letters made from?+

Letter returns (sides) are commonly fabricated from aluminium or stainless steel for durability, with acrylic faces for illuminated types. Non-illuminated letters can also be made from acrylic, ACP, or metal depending on the look and budget.

How are the letters illuminated?+

Modern fabricated letters use energy-efficient LED modules sized to the letter depth. LEDs provide even illumination, last well beyond 50,000 hours, and run cool, which keeps power and maintenance costs low.

How are 3D letters mounted?+

Letters are typically flush-mounted directly to the wall, or stud-mounted on spacers to create a floating effect (which is also how halo-lit letters achieve their glow). The fixing method is chosen to suit the wall substrate and the desired look.

Do illuminated letters need council approval?+

Illuminated and facade-mounted signage usually requires development approval or a signage permit, and requirements vary by council. It is best to check with your local authority before installation, and we can provide documentation to support your application.
